Blocked drains and toilets are a common household issue that can cause frustration and inconvenience. There are several common causes of blockages in drains and toilets, which can lead to clogs and backups.
One of the most common reasons for blockages in drains is the buildup of hair, soap scum, and other debris. Over time, these materials can accumulate in the pipes and create a barrier that prevents water from flowing freely. Additionally, flushing items such as paper towels, wet wipes, or sanitary products down the toilet can also cause blockages.
Another common cause of blocked drains is tree roots infiltrating underground pipes. As trees grow, their roots can extend into drainage systems and create obstructions that impede the flow of water. This problem is particularly prevalent in older homes with aging plumbing systems.
Grease and oil are another culprit when it comes to blocked drains. When these substances are poured down the sink or flushed down the toilet, they can solidify inside the pipes and create blockages. It's important to dispose of grease properly by allowing it to cool and solidify before throwing it away in the trash.
To prevent blockages in drains and toilets, it's essential to be mindful of what you're putting down the drain. Avoid flushing anything other than toilet paper down the toilet, and use a drain strainer to catch hair and debris before they enter the pipes. Regular maintenance such as flushing hot water down the drain can also help prevent blockages from occurring.
In conclusion, blocked drains and toilets are a common household issue that can be caused by a variety of factors including debris buildup, tree root infiltration, grease accumulation, and improper disposal of waste. By taking preventative measures and being mindful of what goes down your drains, you can avoid costly repairs and keep your plumbing system running smoothly.
Prevention is always better than cure, and when it comes to blocked drains and toilets, taking proactive measures can save you from inconvenience and costly repairs. For Hobart homeowners, these practical tips can help keep your plumbing system free from clogs and running smoothly.
In the kitchen, avoid pouring grease, fat, or oil down the sink. Instead, collect these substances in a container and dispose of them in the trash. Use strainers in your sink to catch food particles and clean them regularly to prevent buildup.
In the bathroom, install hair catchers in your shower and sink drains. These simple devices trap hair before it enters the pipes, reducing the risk of clogs. Additionally, avoid flushing wet wipes, sanitary products, and paper towels down the toilet, as these items do not break down easily and can cause blockages.
For outdoor drains, schedule regular inspections to check for signs of tree root intrusion. Plumbers can use cameras to assess the condition of your pipes and recommend preventive measures, such as pipe relining, to protect your system from root damage.
In conclusion, adopting these preventive tips can help you maintain a clog-free plumbing system. For persistent issues, contacting a professional plumber in Hobart ensures effective and long-lasting solutions.

I was looking for a professional plumbing company with specialist knowledge of domestic solar hot water cylinder installation involving connection to the wet back on my wood heater and power supply. I wasn't disappointed. The team provided excellent and timely before, during and after service advice and problem solving. They coordinated tradesmen as needed to finish the job within a week with minimal time without hot water.
Work was completed competently but communication about costs was non existent. * I agreed to hourly charge on the phone but was not told it included travel time. * I was not given any indication on the cost of replacement fittings - and the plumber on site wouldn't even estimate, so have been stuck with the cost. * Was charged an Administrative and Fuel Surcharge which was not agreed to. * Have been charged some odd line items such as 'silicone' as well as 'Sundry'. * Was charged a high cost for freight for an item they ordered in Would not recommend.

You can try using a plunger, drain snake, or a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to attempt to clear the blockage before calling a professional plumber.
